Even In NY

New York

There are so many things that are unique to New York (city and state!), however, mathematics is not one of them. The laws of math are universal, and the city that never sleeps and the empire state must tow the line and stick with them. Even in NY, the law of mathematical identity still holds true. This is another in the series of signs from David Slauenwhite.

The math is as simple as can be in this sign, and in fact triggers two universal laws of mathematics. The first being the identity proof that any number times one results in the same number. The other is the reverse of this, stating that any number divided by itself is always one. This sign could occupy a day in a classroom beginning mathematical proofs.

6 \times 1 = 6

This sign was found on US 44 Westbound as you approach NY 208, about ten miles west of Poughkeepsie. The GPS coordinates are approximately N41 40 28.3 W74 07 54.1. See sign on map!
