Massachusetts

This is the second mathematically significant sign from Massachusetts, found by previous winner David Slauenwhite. Petersham is a great town for hiking, fishing, cycling and hunting. Petersham is one of those places that harbors the America that is remembered in Norman Rockwell paintings. It apparently is also a great place for math lovers.

This sign is loaded with numbers, including some pretty large ones. Usually finding the math that unlocks the relationships in these loaded signs can be a little messy. That is not the case with this sign! The key is that noticing that 32 taken from 122 gives you a very nice number, 90. From there it’s relatively straight-forward to see the secret locked away here.

{ 122 - 32 \over 12 - 3 } = 10

This sign is at the intersection of 32A and 122 in Massachusetts. The GPS coordinates are approximately N42 29 00.0 W72 11 41.0. See sign on map!
