Candlepin Bowling

David Slauenwhite took a very blurry picture of this mathematically significant roadsign. This six-number sign is one of the disappearing breed of Massachusetts signs with distances, a trend that bodes ill for Road Sign Math in the Bay State as they are replacing them with new signs which have route numbers on the square white background but no distances.

Just ahead on the right is the French King Entertainment Center, whose web site is yet another one that imposes music on the web surfer. The facility always had candlepin bowling and then added a tenpin wing in the 1980s. It was founded by business genius Ralph Semb, who holds the world record high game in candlepin bowling, an incredible 245, in a difficult game where even two strikes in a row is a rarity for average league bowlers.

Mr. Slauenwhite smacks these six integers together in no time!

8 \times \sqrt{63 - 8 + 45} = 2 \times 40

This six-number beauty is on Route 2 westbound at Route 63 in Millers Falls in Massachusetts. See sign on map!
