Road Sign Math was launched on February 21, 2005 and in less than six months we are celebrating 50 great roadsigns! The hunt for mathematically significant roadsigns has proven to be more interesting and exciting than anyone would have expected.

We have already introduced 13 US states into the game, as well as 3 other countries. We have had submissions of very simple signs, and amazingly complex signs. We’ve had three signs that are deserving of Blue Ribbon status (Genesis, Euler? Anybody? and Slice of Pi). These 50 signs have brought over 64,500 visitors to the website resulting in nearly 1.4 million hits. The international flavor of visitors to Road Sign Math is also surprising, with the US only being 57% of all visits. Hungary represents 6% of the visits to the site, Russia 5.3%, Canada 4.7%. People from Poland have been here 125 times, 119 times from Latvia, 66 visits from Greece. Now we just need some signs from these great places!

I have been a little surprised with the signs we’ve found so far. Pennsylvania has established itself with a huge lead in signs, double the number of signs from the next state. I’m really surprised that Canada hasn’t introduced a sign. Let’s get something from the Great White North. I’ve also been surprised by the lack of sign submissions from the western states. California has yet to show up! (Use the great map view to check it out!)

Thanks go out to all of the sign contributors, without you all this site would be much less interesting, especially David Slauenwhite and Randy Weiss. A big thanks to all the visitors to Road Sign Math and the great sites that link to it. A special round of thanks to Jim & Suzie Bernard who help makes dreams reality. But most importantly, love to my wife who puts up with my crazy projects, and my little daughter who wears her Road Sign Math onesie with pride.

Keep the hunt for mathematically significant roadsigns strong! Remember…
