To celebrate our 100th sign on Road Sign Math, today we are releasing the revised and updated 2nd edition rules. These rules should simplify the game, and answer some questions and comments that were provided for the original rules.

There are several improvements to the 2nd edition rules. Here are some highlights.

  • All the rules have been restated to be easier to read and understand. All revisions made to the original rules are now incorporated directly so you need not reference foot notes and comments.
  • New sign rules 6 through 8 that define Field of View, Electronic Signs and Sign Groupings.
  • Math rules have been simplified.
  • New sign type: Numerology!
  • Huge new factor with scoring of winners!

We are very excited about the scoring opportunity on Road Sign Math. Over the next several weeks we will be scoring the first 100 signs, and all new signs will be scored as they are posted. We expect to have a contest in 2006 for the highest scoring sign! If you have comments or suggestions on the scoring mechanism, or any other portions of the rules, please contact us!

In addition to the new rules, you likely have noticed we have improved the graphics on the site, and tweaked the site layout a little to afford more usable screen realestate to those on smaller monitors. We’ve also upgraded the jsMath library that displays the math to the most recent release and added new subscribe options to allow you to easily add Road Sign Math to your favorite portal.

We appreciate your enthusiasm and excitement for this site. Road Sign Math is made possible through volunteer efforts by a small group of people. If you would like to help out, please see the help wanted page.

Keep the hunt for mathematically significant roadsigns strong! Remember…
